The article I read and analyzed was called, "Fox News:
Fair and Balanced? We Report. You Decide." The article gathered data from the Fox News website of
transcripts from the show Hannity and Colmes. The Hannity and Colmes show consisted of two hosts who talked
about political issues from conservative and liberal viewpoints. Hannity spoke from a conservative point
and Colmes from a liberal one.
From the data gathered the researchers found that in the transcripts
Hannity, the conservative host, spoke an average of 396.69 words in each
transcript, while Colmes, the liberal host, only spoke an average of 284 words
a transcript. Also in 21 out of
the 32 transcripts analyzed, Hannity had more words than Colmes. These differences show that Fox News is
a biased news organization. The
article only researches Fox News, but argues that they are the only news
organization to claim they are unbiased.
Fox news makes this claim in their slogan, "Fair and Balanced. The article explains the history of Fox
News and the regulation then deregulation of news media in the United
States. It also claims that most
of the news media in the United States is biased and that many Americans are
aware of that bias. If the news
media in the United States is biased, what affect does that have on politics
and what can be done to reverse it?
I will talk about this in my second blog.
